General contractors Jaime Rogers and Luis Renteria founded Double R Construction, LLC in Las Cruces in 2017, combining their longtime friendship, each one’s extensive background in construction and a commitment to the highest standards.“We set ourselves apart by being more detail oriented and providing good, quality work,” said Jaime, who has been doing construction work “since I was little. I started out with my uncle, learning the trade.” A native of Puerto Palomas, Mexico, Jaime attended Deming High School and has lived in Las Cruces for 16 years.Double R Construction does “a little bit of everything,” including remodeling and complete “from the ground up” home construction projects, and is expanding more into commercial construction, said Luis, a Chicago native who came to Las Cruces nearly 25 years ago. He began doing construction work with his father at a very young age, Luis said. One of his earliest memories is holding a hammer. Jaime and Luis met in 2009 as both were doing construction work on the side. They chose to resign from their positions and embark on the journey of establishing their own company.Another thing that makes the company unique, Jaime said, is its commitment to cleanliness. The Double R crew doesn’t wait until the end of a project to clean up, he said. Rather, crew members make it a point to clean up the jobsite after every day’s work. Jaime and Luis “treat our employees like part of the family,” Jaime said. “We don’t think of them as employees; we try to do as much as possible for them.” “We treat them with respect,” Luis said. “We hold them to the same standards as ourselves. That makes a big difference when compared to the competition. We have a very low turnover rate.”Some former Double R employees have gone into business for themselves, Luis said. Double R often hires them back as subcontractors.Jaime and Luis said Double R also has very loyal customers. “We have a great eye for detail,” Luis said. “Our commitment is such that if a particular standard or element is not something we would accept in our own homes, it will not meet the criteria for acceptance in our customers’ homes.”
